A Real Workout

Val's PT session was at 10am and when it was over at 11am we both felt like we'd had a workout! First we started putting on his prosthetic leg and then the new brace. He has to actually stand in order to get the stump to slide all the way down into the prosthetis and even with the help of 4 people this proved to be very difficult. They ended up putting him flat on a table, got his legs in position and then electrically tilted the table slowly up to a standing position. Later his therapist, Josephine, worked with both his legs on strenghtening exercises. We're to do these at home also. For me, the effort of getting his platform out of the car and in position and for him, transferring from car to scooter and then repeating this again after the session also contributed to our being exhausted! Next week he is scheduled for Mon., Wed. and Fri.

For any of you that read the "comments" on last night's blog, Marybeth asked if Mandarin Orange cake was the same as Pig Pick'in cake and the answer is YES. Cissy served this to our family on our first trip to Texas in 1976 and it instantly became a "family favorite". We're still not exactly sure where the name came from and it was some years later when I saw the same recipe in a cookbook and they called it Mandarin Orange cake.
But whatever you choose to call it, it is quite delicious! It's a good thing we had lots of exercise today as we're planning to have another small piece of cake and some chocolate cherry cordial coffee for dessert later tonight!

Jan, I'm wondering if they offer PT for you! Sounds like you get just as hard, if not harder, work out than Val.
Thanks for the info on the cake. YES!!! I have the recipe in my file from you and we love it too. THanks!
Blessings to you all.
